Letter to Parents
We would like to take this opportunity to describe the library collection in our middle schools and explain how you can keep informed of the books your child is checking out from the school library.
As your child moves from elementary school to middle school, they have access to an expanded, more diverse, and more mature library collection to serve the needs and interests of all our middle school students. Books added to our library collection follow Jeffco Public Schools’ selection procedures for 6-8th grade middle school students.
We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about choosing books that match both your child’s maturity level as well as your family’s expectations & values. As always, emphasis is placed on reading for pleasure and joy. If a student feels uncomfortable reading a book, they should immediately return it to the library so that we can help them find a book they truly enjoy.
Students & families can access the Mandalay’s library catalog at tinyurl.com/MandalayLibrary. Click ‘Login’ in the upper righthand corner, click ‘Jeffco Login’, & enter your student’s school ID number & password. By clicking ‘My Stuff’ at the top, you can see all checkouts, holds, fines, and more. Fines are only applied for lost or damaged materials.
We look forward to continuing to support your child’s curricular and independent reading choices! If you have any questions, please contact our school’s Digital Teacher Librarian, Tiffany LoSasso at Tiffany.LoSasso@jeffco.k12.co.us
Why is the library nicknamed 'The Room of Requirement'?
Libraries look a lot different today than they did in years past. Our library is used for clubs, meetings, celebrations, group work, lunch chats, silent reading, academic support, an escape, research, technology support, general needs and questions, and so much more. Book checkout is a small piece to the puzzle.
In the Harry Potter series, The Room of Requirement is a space that changes its format depending on the needs of the users. We don't have magic to structure the space in a different way, but we have furniture on wheels! Our space is meant to fit the needs of our school - however that may look.
Digital Tools
